I still mourn Domino

The loss of Domino, some 3+ years later, still has a ripple effect.  Yes, the editors did bring us a brief reprieve this past spring and it was great, but I still crave it in a consistent, reoccurring format.

Lonny helps.  Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with ANYTHING the founders of Matchbook put out, which also helps.  However, there is still that Domino-shaped void.

Perhaps this will be the fix? Lili Diallo (below), a former Domino stylist is launching billie magazine  this month and will have a focus on travel, home stories and market round-ups.  Initial thoughts based on their current site (heart that couch), Pinterest and Instagram accounts are that this one could be a gem....

I just got back from New England after enjoying family time and fall leaves - looking forward to sharing some of the gorgeous images!

Print Shop

My Pinterest habit has a tendency to go through phases.  One week we can see I am apparently on a health food kick, pinning recipes for quinoa muffins and cucumber based snacks. While another week we can see I have abandoned said health food obsession and am now pinning any unique pizza recipe that I lay my eyes on.

Lately I have moved away from food and find myself constantly pinning things for our home, specifically prints to place on wooden shelves that will one day (someday?) live in our living room.

Below are some recent ones that have caught my eye:

Love this simple print of my hometown, despite being geographically incorrect (the Sears, er I mean Willis Tower is not on the lake).  Can be purchased here

I love this one because my husband often says this to me.  Bonus points to him because 1) I love oysters and 2) He often says it to me in places where I can procure oysters (I am sure is not a coincidence) which prompts me to be cheesy and reply "And I can get one too!" Line your Dominos up

I subscribed to Domino magazine from the minute I first heard about it.  I received the first issue and every one after that.

And then for no reason whatsoever, I did the the unthinkable and threw them away during one of those reckless cleaning sprees we all go on every now and then.  And we know how the rest of the story goes...the recession happened, print publications got (unfairly) beat up upon and my beloved Domino folded.

Although not returning in its full glory, Conde Nast is throwing us a bone and putting a modified version of it back on shelves this spring.

This makes me happier than when I come across a fabulous rectangular white tufted ottoman coffee table against a bright chevron patterned rug....

Want.This.Room.

Fact: my obsession with Pinterest knows no bounds.

One of the things I love most about it is when an image is "pinned" by multiple users. This could be something that may annoy other users on the site, however for me it is usually a pretty good indicator that you should check it out.

When something is "pinned' over and over the image keeps popping up all day in your feed. This can happen over an amazing recipe, a DIY project, the must have pair of ballet flats or even whatever dress the latest (and greatest) Duchess Catherine is wearing.

See the image below as an example of this. I kept seeing this particular room over and over. At first glance I liked it, but it wasn't until I explored the picture more and more that I began to realize what an utterly amazing room it is.

It is eclectic, yet easy to relate to. It mixes color, patterns, price points and texture perfectly.

Bottom line: I need it to breathe (but will most likely settle for the living room I have).

Pinterest Saves the Day

Anyone who knows me has been recently inundated with my constant praise for the site Pinterest.

It is a godsend and one of those things that, similar to flat-bottomed tacos, makes one say "Why didn't someone think of that before?" With its easy way to categorize anything I find on the web it has helped the way I cook, shop and organize my life.

Below are a few gems via pinterest for home organization that I absolutely love. Enjoy!


Use bread clips to label cords



I am forever wrapping my sugar and flour in flimsy plastic grocery bags to keep them from getting all over the place. VERY MUCH looking forward to trying this out.


I am always saving ribbon for wrapping presents and always annoyed with how messy they get in their big container. The only real challenge is going to be deciding which flavor of tic-tacs I want to consume for this. Do they still make the orange flavor?

Where does Ikea get off not looking so "Ikea"?

The husband and I recently moved into a new condo at the beginning of the summer and have been slllooowwwlllyyy decorating it to fit a nice blend of our tastes.

We really want to seek out original furniture that matches our style and avoid the ikea furniture that has populated our post college apartments for the past several years...however a recent peek at the new items on their website seems to have thrown a (funny unpronounceable Swedish word named) wrench into that plan.

I am absolutely lusting after that gray chair like it is Brad Pitt circa 1998, its shape and color would be perfect in our living room.

The console table, rug, lamp, throw - all absolute perfection. An Ikea trip is most likely in our near future...I can taste the Swedish meatballs now!
